What if you had to give up one of your senses? A harrowing thought! But in a recent Eureka survey, we posed this hypothetical question to our respondents, and the results were revealing.

As the most undervalued sense, Smell, surprisingly led the pack. Is it our modern lifestyle, filled with artificial smells from perfumes to room fresheners, taking away the need for a strong sense of smell? Or is it because smell is connected less to our survival in comparison to other senses?

The Value of Our Least Valued Sense

It is crucial to recognize Smell's hidden value. From triggering memory recall to alerting us to dangers such as smoke from a fire or gas leaks - smell plays an understated yet critical role. With this insight, we must ponder over our taken-for-granted senses and their indispensable roles.

Following Smell, respondents were willing to sacrifice Taste and Touch respectively. Surprisingly, Sight, our dominant sense, came fourth on the list, indicating its valued importance, while Hearing finished last - deeming it the most precious sense to our respondents.

What Does This Say About Us?

Shows just how much we rely on some senses more than others for navigating through life. We, as humans, are relying on our capacity to see and hear as primary guides in our daily encounters. These interesting findings remind us to appreciate our senses - they contribute to our awareness and appreciation of the world around us.
